JUSTIN Edinburgh is happy to play the waiting game in regard to strengthening his squad with new signings, writes Michael Pearlman.

The Exiles boss has revealed talks are underway regarding two players departing the club to free funds for new acquisitions, but no moves are imminent.

“We have had a few phone calls over the last couple of days about one or two players at the club and I have spoken to those players to keep them in the picture,” he said.

“At the moment I don’t want to say who the players are, we’ll keep that private at the moment, because the players need to assess their options.

“But the only way we’ll get more players in is by moving a couple out, I am fully aware of that and fully happy with that situation.”

Edinburgh is expecting both Newport and Wycombe to be improved since their battle at the end of last season, the Chairboys only surviving relegation on the final day of the campaign.

“I think my players are going to improve, I think we have a strengthened squad and most importantly, better spirit in the camp,” he said.

“I also think Wycombe will be a better team, stronger, physically, Gareth Ainsworth their manager told me last season he didn’t think they had that physicality, so I expect that to be improved this time around.

“They will want to use their battles last season as a springboard to a better campaign and at this stage, all the games are tough.

“We want to work hard to improve and away from home, we want to pick up more points.

“We drew ten games last season on the road and that’s something for us to work hard and put right this season.”
