NEWPORT County AFC do plan to take part in the Tickets for Troops scheme on a regular basis, starting with this weekend’s home clash with Exeter City, writes Andrew Penman.

Tickets for Troops is a registered charity that provides free tickets to members of the Armed Forces for a variety of sporting, musical and cultural events.

The scheme offers serving personnel and those medically discharged from the forces since 2001, the opportunity to enjoy an event of their choice with their friends and families.

The charity has given out more than 600,000 tickets to its 140,000 registered members of the military to a range of sports.

All Premier League clubs and the majority of Football League clubs signed up to take part in the campaign to mark Remembrance Weekend.

Those clubs who played away from home last weekend have put aside tickets for service men and women this Saturday instead.

County have now registered with Tickets for Troops in time for Sunday’s clash with Exeter at Rodney Parade to be included in the Remembrance Weekend commemorations.

And chief executive Dave Boddy says the club intends to welcome service men and women to matches for the remainder of the season and beyond.

“We are going to take part in the scheme on a regular basis for every game and not just for Remembrance Sunday,” he told the Argus.

Meanwhile County under-18s were beaten 3-0 at Plymouth Argyle in their latest Football League Youth Alliance fixture on Tuesday.

This weekend’s home clash with Cheltenham has been postponed to give the Exiles youngsters a chance to fully prepare for the FA Youth Cup tie against MK Dons next Tuesday.

Tickets for the second round tie at Rodney Parade will cost £5 for adults and £1 for under-16s and the Bisley Stand will be open for the game.
