NEWPORT County boss Jimmy Dack is calling on supporters to help the Exiles turn Rodney Parade into a fortress again.

And Dack, who admits the pitch at County’s home isn’t currently optimal, is ready to tweak his tactics in a bid to entertain the amber army.

Speaking after the Exiles’ superb 1-0 win at Burton, which knocked the Brewers off the top of League Two and put Newport back into a play-off berth, Dack also praised match winner Miles Storey.

“It’s great, not many teams come here and win a game, we are delighted with the win and we worked hard on the training ground and we came here with a gameplan,” he said.

“We had a gameplan and two banks of four in with the idea to work them hard up top and it is rewarding for us to see the players working hard and sticking to what we want to do.

“The commitment and the honesty from this group of players is unbelievable, sometimes when you go a goal down you need more quality, as Burton found today. It happens sometimes. That’s football.”

Dack is urging supporters to help the club to back-to-back wins when they entertain Mansfield Town on Tuesday night.

“This win gives us a great lift, but we went away to Wycombe and we beat them and we’ve won seven games away, so we know we can win games away from home, it’s about getting our home form right,” he explained.

“Whether we need to tweak the system to be more on the front foot and open teams up a little bit more, is something for Wayne Hatswell and I to discuss.

“Rodney Parade has been fantastic for us and we’ve got to get it going again and will give it another go on Tuesday and try to get the three points.

“There is a bit more pressure on us at home from the supporters and I don’t blame them, they pay their money and they want to be entertained.”

And Dack admits the Rodney Parade pitch is beginning to show signs of a long season.

He explained: “I don’t want to go on about it, but we need to start getting that first goal, because the pitch at the moment is not a chasing down pitch.

“I don’t want to be disrespectful to it (the pitch) because the ground staff does a fantastic job, but there are a lot of rugby games going on now and it’s a pitch where you’ve got to get that first goal and really take it to teams.

“I don’t want to turn it into an issue, it’s not the best, it could be better, but it’s much better than it was last season.”

Dack also praised his match winner.

“He’s getting fit now, we see him do that in training, he’s full of life and energy and we are glad to have him until the end of the season... It was a top drawer finish,” he said.
