NEWPORT County AFC Supporters Trust now have more than 500 members due to a surge in interest following Friday’s open meeting at the Riverfront Theatre, writes Andrew Penman.

The total number of members stood at 517 this afternoon as the Trust look to boost their numbers ahead of their potential takeover of the club.

In a statement the Trust said: “Newport County Supporters Trust would like to thank all those supporters who turned out in their hundreds to listen to the considerations to achieve the ambition of owning our beloved Newport County.

“We heard from our advisors at Supporters Direct, outlining the process to ownership through a share offering and financial considerations, along with the historical financial picture of the club.

“The Trust outlined how it intends to operate if it meets its ambition. The club's president David Hando gave a rallying speech calling for all supporters to get behind the Trust.

“Many of you asked questions. We also provided a comprehensive set of Frequently Asked Questions (and answers) which we intend to publish on the Trust website.

“Whilst the briefing provided a significant amount of information, there is one burning question and that is 'how much money do we need to raise, why and by when?'

“Supporters Direct will now refine their plan and gather the required information to move to the launch of the share offering.

“Thank you again for your considerable support to date. Please do all you can to support the club by buying your season tickets and joining the Trust if you have not already done so.”
