FORMER Newport County AFC captain Gary Warren has given his backing to the proposed Supporters Trust takeover of the club.

Warren led the Exiles to promotion to the Conference under manager Dean Holdsworth in 2010 and to the FA Trophy final under Justin Edinburgh in 2012.

And, ahead of the Trust’s share offer launch on Thursday, the former skipper has offered his full support to the bid.

Warren, who now plays for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Premier League, urged the Exiles fans to attend Thursday’s meeting and offer whatever help they can to the Trust.

He said: “As a former player and captain of Newport County AFC I know how important you guys are for the club.

“You are what is needed at this moment in time to not only help the current management team and players but to drive this club forward.

“I ask every one of you to dig deep, pull together and keep improving the club.

“It has come a long way and it deserves to keep progressing but that will only happen if we are all pulling in the same direction – onwards and upwards.”

The Trust share offer launch takes place at the Riverfront Theatre in Newport on Thursday at 7pm. Only members of the Trust will be able to acquire shares.
