A SUPPORTERS' takeover of Newport County AFC is on a knife edge, with the club's Supporters' Trust needing to raise £10,000 before midnight tomorrow to secure ownership of the Rodney Parade outfit.

The Trust has a target figure of £195,000 to raise via its community shares offer.

The fund has reached £185,000 before tonight's home match against Crawley Town (7.45pm kick-off).

Trust board members will be taking donations before the match in the Snelling Bar and the Bisley Suite, and will be staging a share surgery at the club shop tomorrow night from 6.30pm to 8.30pm as they urge fans to make one final push to secure the takeover.

The Argus understands current owner Les Scadding is primed to sign over his majority shareholding in the club to the Trust as soon as the £195,000 target is reached. Scadding is gifting his shares to the Trust.

The £195,000 target is to pay off the club's bank overdraft, to settle the remainder of the transfer fee owed to Peterborough United for goalkeeper Joe Day, and to provide working capital for the club.

An outstanding directors' loan owed to Scadding is to be paid back separately at an agreed rate of £3,000 a month, interest free.

There are a variety of ways for County supporters to buy community shares, and they are all listed on the Trust's website ncafctrust.org
