TEENAGER Aaron Collins could be set to follow in the footsteps of former Newport County AFC star Lee Evans by sealing a big money move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Collins’ winner at York City last Saturday and impressive showing against Blackburn Rovers on Monday are believed to have alerted several Championship clubs.

The Exiles turned down bids of up to £65,000 for the 18-year-old from Burnley in September but it is Wolves, who Collins played against in August in the Capital One Cup, who are at the head of the queue this time.

County manager Warren Feeney says clubs have made contact about Collins and others this week and the forward looks set to leave Rodney Parade before the end of the January transfer window.

And with Lenell John-Lewis possibly out until the end of the season with a ruptured hamstring, Feeney today signed three front men.

The Exiles boss brought in Irish under-21 international Conor Wilkinson on a one-month loan from Bolton Wanderers, Deane Smalley on loan until the end of the season from Plymouth Argyle and free agent John-Christophe Ayina.

All should be available to take on Dagenham & Redbridge at Rodney Parade on Saturday.

Feeney says he wants to bring in at least two more and he’s also braced for outgoings.

“There will be some going,” he said. “There’s possibly one that’s gone.

“I’m sure people will start guessing but that’s football. If players aren’t playing they’ll want to leave.

“I don’t mind players being disappointed but if they don’t want to be here I’m hoping players will move on.

“I want players who are going to play and help us until the end of the season to make sure we survive in this league.

“There’s been a couple of enquiries for some of them.”

On Collins, Feeney said: “There’s going to be interest in any young kid who bursts onto the scene.

“Aaron’s probably struck while it’s hot with his goal last week and he put in a fantastic performance against Blackburn.

“There’s going to be interest and speculation when you’re an 18-year-old kid and all of a sudden you’re playing.

“But I’ve said before he needs to keep his feet on the ground, play 30 or 40 games and he will get a move.

“He’s still learning and he’s got his faults but there is going to be interest in him at that age.

“He is playing and you get a bit of interest all of a sudden their head gets turned and that’s why he’s got to keep his feet on the ground.

“There has been enquiries but he’s not the only one and it’s one that we’ll assess.

“At the end of the day everyone has a price,” he added.

“If you get offers for a certain player it’s hard to turn down and if we think it’s right we won’t stand in anyone’s way.”
