NEWPORT County AFC goalkeeper Rhys Taylor says he wants his future sorted as soon as possible.

The 26-year-old has been in impressive form for Wrexham since joining on loan from County in October and is out of contract at Rodney Parade at the end of the season.

Taylor made just one competitive appearance for the Exiles after being signed by Terry Butcher last summer and is highly unlikely to return to Newport.

Wrexham boss Gary Mills is due to start the process of offering players new deals shortly and, although Taylor has attracted interest from other clubs, he says extending his stay at The Racecourse is not out of the question.

“I don’t think anyone has been offered anything here yet,” Taylor told the Wrexham Leader. “My phone has been ringing as well with other people.

“If the gaffer wants to get something done then it needs to be done as soon as possible really because money doesn’t grow on trees and the last thing I want to be doing is going away on holiday without anything sorted for next season, whether it is at Newport or elsewhere.

“I would like it to be sorted as soon as possible because I have got a house to pay for. As it is in anyone’s life, you have got to look after your family.

“I have loved it at Wrexham. If everything was right then I would never rule anything out.”

Taylor, who spent two and a half seasons at Macclesfield before joining County last summer, is searching for stability.

“When I was younger I would wait but now I am 26 and I want to be sorted somewhere,” he added.

“I don’t really want to be signing a year anywhere.

“I want to be signing a bit longer than that so I put some roots down again and be settled. I have got my missus and she is moving all over the place and it is not fair on her.

“Wherever I go I want to be settled for a few years so we will see what happens.”

Taylor would prefer to ply his trade in the Football League but insists he would have no qualms about playing for Wrexham.

“I don’t want to stay in the National League but this is a club that can go forward,” he said.

“There is no other club in the National League that I would even think about signing for.

“I said that when I came here. The club is not where it needs to be but it is and obviously that needs to be sorted out. If I stay, I would like to be part of that for the next few years.”
