WARREN Feeney says today’s final home game of the season against Notts County is a chance for him and the players to thanks the Newport County AFC fans for their support during a testing campaign.

County finally secured safety in League Two last weekend with a draw at Luton Town and Feeney says the supporters have played a big part in getting the team over the line.

And the Exiles boss wants to reward the fans by ending a run of nine games without a win.

“It’s a massive thing to thank the fans because I think it’s been very difficult and they’ve supported the boys through thick and thin,” said Feeney.

“Everyone gets frustrated but they’ve played a big part and we want to thank them for the support they’ve given us over the season.

“It’s important because it’s a fan-owned club and we want to thank them for their support through difficult times.

“I’m sure it will be a good atmosphere because, from where we have been, it’s a great achievement to stay up.

“It has been a tough year but I don’t like celebrating just staying in the league,” he added.

“I’m not one to get carried away and I’ve already started to look towards next season.

“The players will go away and I’ll go away myself. I’ll probably get a week off but it will probably be the busiest time for me.

“We’ll enjoy the last home and we’ve got a charity game afterwards and an awards evening as well.

“We’ll enjoy that but we won’t get too carried away.”

Feeney says he still wants to end the season on a high, even though his side are safe.

“Obviously the pressure is off now but we’ll still treat the game the exact same way,” he said.

“We are professionals and we want to win the game even if most of the hard work has been done.

“There’ll be a few changes. I think it’s important to give players games,” he added.

“I want to make as many changes as I can but I want to go and win the game and the team that I put out will be strong with lots of energy – we’ve been working on it since Monday and I’ve every confidence in the players who will be out there.”
