GOALKEEPER Rhys Taylor returned to the Newport County AFC first team on Saturday but it looks unlikely that he will remain at Rodney Parade.
Following the end of a successful loan spell at Wrexham, Taylor made only his second competitive appearance for County in the 1-0 defeat at AFC Wimbledon.
Manager Warren Feeney was pleased with Taylor’s display but with regular number one Joe Day contracted for next season there is unlikely to be room in the budget for another top goalkeeper.
“I knew Rhys was a decent keeper,” said the Exiles boss. “I thought I’d give him a chance and I thought he did very well.
“He’s been playing games and I was impressed with him.
“But I think the position we’re in it is a difficult one,” he added.
“At the end of the day you want to get the best players but the best players cost money so it is important that we spend the money right.”
Asked about those who will be released this week, Feeney said: “I’ve been in football for 19 years now and I accepted if a manager didn’t fancy me. I got on with it and I never let it stop me.”
