NEWPORT County AFC have signed defensive midfielder Ben Tozer on a one-year deal.

The 26-year-old becomes the latest recruit to join the ranks at Rodney Parade ahead of the new League Two season.

Born in Plymouth, Tozer started his career at Swindon Town before moving to Newcastle United in 2008.

Following his two-year spell with the Magpies, he joined Northampton Town on loan in September 2010 and then made the switch to the Cobblers permanently in June 2011.

After making more than 170 appearances for Northampton, Yeovil Town took Tozer to Huish Park last summer.

Tozer appeared over 20 times for the Glovers in League Two.

Speaking after putting pen to paper on his move to the Exiles, Ben told the club’s website: “It has been a bit of a whirlwind with the deal being sorted out so quickly, but I'm delighted to get the deal done and over the line.

“I have been over the training ground this afternoon and met some of the lads. Speaking to Warren (Feeney, manager) it is clear that he has impressive plans for the squad and it is something that I'm looking forward to being a part of.”

Feeney commented: “Ben is another fantastic addition for us.

“He has experience at this level which will be a great benefit for us and is another player that has the right mentality, and I'm sure he will gel in well with the players that we have added to the squad over the summer.”

Meanwhile, Wednesday's friendly away at Ton Pentre has been postponed as it clashes with Wales' Euro 2016 semi-final against Portugal.
