NEWPORT County AFC midfielder Jack Compton could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a calf injury at the start of his side’s clash with MK Dons last night.
The EFL Cup first round tie at Rodney Parade was just a few minutes old when summer signing Compton limped off to be replaced by Ben Tozer.
Speaking after County’s 3-2 defeat, Exiles boss Warren Feeney said it didn’t look good for the former Yeovil, Hartlepool and Falkirk winger.
“It looks as if he will be out for a while,” said Feeney.
“He’s a fantastic player is Jack, he’s clever, and it was a big blow for us that he had to come off so early.
“It’s a body down now and we’ll assess it to see how it is.”
Compton made a stunning start to his County career when he scored 18 minutes into his debut on the opening day of the season last Saturday.
His equaliser cancelled out Matt Green’s opener for Mansfield, although the Stags went on to win the game 3-2.
Compton’s injury will be assessed by the County medical staff over the next few days.
