WARREN Feeney has given an update on the fitness of Jack Compton, revealing that the winger is likely to be out for weeks rather than months.

Compton, who scored with a fantastic free-kick in the League Two opener against Mansfield Town, suffered a calf injury just minutes into Tuesday’s EFL Cup defeat to MK Dons.

Newport County AFC manager Feeney said after the game that Compton would be out for ‘a while’ but he’s now hopeful that the 27-year-old could be fit by the end of the month.

“We’re waiting on Jack’s [scan] results,” said the Exiles boss ahead of Saturday's trip to Leyton Orient. “We’re hoping it’s going to be good news. It’s not going to be too long but he is a big miss.

“He’s got that ability to open teams up and also from set-plays but whoever misses out it’s an opportunity for someone else to step in.

“He’ll probably be about two to three weeks, hopefully.

“We’ve just got to wait on the results to see how he is but he’ll definitely be out for this weekend.”
