NEWPORT County AFC manager Warren Feeney is hoping to upset the odds again tonight and pull off another shock away win.

County lost their first two games of the season at Rodney Parade last week before stunning Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road on Saturday.

That was a first win for the Exiles since they beat Portsmouth 3-0 at Fratton Park in March and Feeney hopes for similar success against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road this evening.

“I had a funny feeling that we could get something [at Leyton Orient],” said the boss.

“I felt that at home we get a little bit nervous, last season anyway.

“This season we’ve lost the two and some teams are better away from home.

“I’m not saying we are but we seem to gel a wee bit more together and it’s a fantastic place to get the right result.

“It was great to see the fans at the end celebrating a deserved victory and the three points were for them.”

Feeney says the manner of Saturday’s victory shows the difference between his new-look squad and the one that ended last season in such disappointing fashion.

“I wanted characters and leaders,” he said. “You want people who care.

“I’m not saying they didn’t last year but once they got beat they went into lulls and it was hard getting out of it.

“This team works so hard for each other,” he added.

“You can have a bad game in football but you still work hard for your team. That for me is the minimum requirement of being a professional footballer.”

Feeney could be without winger Jennison Myrie-Williams tonight but striker Jon Parkin is available after his ban.

“Jennison has got a problem with his thigh, which he’s had a little bit of trouble with in pre-season,” he explained.

“He missed a few days in pre-season and it’s probably come back to hurt him a little bit. We’ll assess him and see how he is.

“Big Parky has been chomping at the bit to be involved. He’s fantastic to have around the changing room and it will be massive for us.

“He knows the leagues well from the Premier League down and he’ll be another good addition for us.”
