NEWPORT County AFC manager Graham Westley wants his side to keep on climbing the table after a stunning 3-0 win at Notts County lifted them out of the bottom two.

Goals from Sean Rigg and loan stars Rhys Healey and Josh Sheehan saw Westley’s men humiliate former Exiles boss John Sheridan and his team at Meadow Lane.

Rigg opened the scoring from the rebound after his penalty was saved before Healey and Sheehan both scored spectacular solo efforts to seal an emphatic win.

“I think it was a strong away performance and we worked very hard for the points,” said Westley.

“There was a lot of discipline and organisation and care in our performance and we were good with and without the ball.

“It’s obviously pleasing to come to a tough environment like this, against a very good side, and earn the three points.”

The Exiles are now seven unbeaten in all competitions and in the last six games Healey and Sheehan have netted 10 times between them.

“I’ve said since I’ve been here that I’ve inherited some terrific players with incredible technical ability,” added Westley.

“Josh Sheehan is going from strength to strength.

“When I arrived people said that he was talked of at one stage in his career as the new Aaron Ramsey.

“And he’s showing all that quality. He’s a tremendous prospect.

“And Rhys Healey is doing the same thing.

“He’s come in from Cardiff and he’s showing athleticism, he’s showing tenacity and he’s showing super quality.

“At the moment the team is going in the right direction. The lads are improving, they’re working very hard together and it’s positive that the goals are flowing through as well.”

But Westley knows there is still plenty of hard work to come for his side, starting with the visit of Wycombe Wanderers to Rodney Parade on Tuesday night.

“We knew we could get out of the bottom two today and we’ve done that job,” he added.

“We’re obviously pleased to have done that job but we could be back in the bottom two if we don’t keep winning games.”
