GOALS from Sean Rigg, Rhys Healey and Josh Sheehan earned Newport County AFC another valuable three points on the road at Notts County. Here's what we learned...

1. Meadow Lane blues blown away

Newport County had only won on one previous visit to Notts County, back in April 1986, and they’d taken some brutal beatings at Meadow Lane – losing 5-0, 6-2, 11-1, 7-0, 6-0 (twice), 8-1, 4-1 and 5-2 down the years.

They were 2-0 up last year before losing 4-3 but the Magpies’ ground is no longer an unlucky hunting ground for the Exiles after a dominant display buried the hoodoo.

2. Sheehan and Healey in a class of their own

It’s now 10 goals in the past six games between these two supremely talented 21-year-olds who seem to be spurring each other on to greater feats with every passing week.

But with both deals currently due to end in January and their parent clubs – Swansea City and Cardiff City – hardly pulling up trees the worry is can County keep hold of their loan stars? Are they catching the eye a bit too much?

3. Graham Westley happy to be the pantomime villain

The Exiles boss is used to being the least popular man in the stadium when his sides are away from home and he signalled his intention from the start at Meadow Lane.

Westley back heeled a ball away from a Magpies player to prevent a quick throw-in being taken and was booed by the home fans, much to his amusement.

South Wales Argus:

4. Trouble brewing for John Sheridan

The home fans also showed their ire towards their own manager, booing at half-time and full-time and when Sheridan withdrew former Exiles star Aaron Collins in the second half.

He couldn’t win at Meadow Lane as Newport manager last season and only one win there this season means Sheridan’s job will be on the line unless things pick up quickly.

5. And he’s still not forgiven by the Amber Army

Sheridan may have steadied the ship and helped save Newport from relegation last season but the manner of his departure to Oldham Athletic in January still rankles with some, even 10 months on.

After Josh Sheehan’s third goal went in the travelling fans delighted in singing ‘Sheridan, what’s the score?’ And now they’ve got a new messiah to worship.
