NEWPORT County AFC manager Graham Westley says he expects tomorrow’s League Two clash with Wycombe Wanderers to go ahead despite heavy rainfall leaving the match in doubt.

The Exiles have already had two home games affected by the weather this season due to drainage issues at Rodney Parade.

The match against Barnet on September 3 was abandoned at half-time and the Stevenage match on October 1 was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Rodney Parade recently staged five matches in 11 days and tomorrow’s fixture is the first of three in six days.

And with rain forecast to continue until 3am on Tuesday and more expected tomorrow afternoon there is a real possibility that the Wycombe match will have to be rearranged.

But Westley, whose side are seven matches unbeaten, wants to keep County’s momentum going and he’s hoping that the match will go ahead as planned.

“I don’t worry about things I can’t control,” said the Exiles boss.

“Hopefully the pitch will drain and we expect the game to go ahead.

“The conditions will be as the conditions will be. It’s our home pitch and we’re down here. We know what it’s like so we can plan and prepare for it.

“The pitch we train on today is going to be worse than the pitch we play on tomorrow night so we’re ready for it.”

He added: “I turned up for the Wimbledon game the other week and they told me there was a pitch inspection at 4pm and it was in doubt.

“I told them not to bother talking to me. I’m ready for the game so bring the game on.

“That’s the only mentality I’ve ever got. I don’t worry about all that nonsense.

“The weather is not in anyone’s hands.”

No decision will be made today but a pitch inspection is likely tomorrow afternoon.
