NEWPORT County AFC manager Graham Westley is not worried by his side’s return to the bottom of the League Two table after defeat at home to Wycombe Wanderers.

The visitors’ late winner at Rodney Parade on Tuesday night ended County’s seven-match unbeaten run and saw them slip back to the bottom.

They had climbed to 22nd following Saturday’s impressive 3-0 win at Notts County and Westley is confident that they will be heading up the table again quickly.

“I’m not going to worry about that,” he said. “We’ve got enough quality in our dressing room to win football matches, we know that.

“We’re not going to get down on ourselves; we’ve taken some really good steps in recent weeks, put in some really good performances and got some really good wins.

“We’ve lost a game of football but we won’t shoot ourselves; we’ll be honest with ourselves.

“We’ve had a good frank debate about the things we need to do better.

“And if you don’t do things right you lose games but we’ve got a lot of quality in our side to do things right and win games going forward.”

The Exiles boss is confident that his side can bounce back with another strong showing on the road at Blackpool this coming Saturday.

He added: “It’s about how we recover, how we train on Thursday, how we prepare on Friday, how we travel and how we perform on the day in a difficult northern tie on Saturday.

“It’s a big week ahead but every week’s a big week and if you want to be the best you can be you’ve got to work very hard.”

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth was delighted to do what he believes most sides won’t achieve this season – take away three points from Rodney Parade.

“It’s a tough team,” said the Chairboys chief. “Graham has done a fantastic job. He’s a good manager.

“He gets his fair share of stick from people but I think he’s a good manager and we’ve had some close battles.

“He knows how to get a result, especially in this division, so I think it’ll be a tough place for teams to come.

“He’s a good guy and it’s a good three points for us because not many teams will come here and get stuff here.

“The pitch stifles the way you play and also Graham has got them set up [well], working very hard and obviously he’s got some good players.”
