MANAGER Michael Flynn says he will “freshen up” the team as Newport County AFC head to Swindon Town on Saturday aiming to halt a six-match winless streak in League Two.

Flynn was bitterly disappointed with his team’s performance on Tuesday and the manner of defeat as Barnet fought back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 with two late goals at Rodney Parade.

Robbie Willmott is definitely ruled out due to concussion and Flynn will make further changes for Saturday's match at fifth-placed Swindon.

“I’ve always got license to make changes,” said the Exiles boss. “Win, lose or draw, I will make changes if I think it’s right for the team.

“There was a lot made of Ben White playing left-back but he played there against Coventry and we won. I did it for tactical reasons.

“There will be changes but more to freshen it up than having a go at them.”

South Wales Argus:

On Willmott, who was forced off with a head injury on Tuesday after being barged into an advertising board (above), Flynn said: “Robbie is obviously out after his concussion.

“That’s disappointing because he can play in a lot of different positions and he’s been playing really well of late.

“The doc and the physio tested him for concussion and there were no signs of it so he came back on.

“But it was a delayed concussion and we had to take him off.

“The procedure is seven to 10 days with concussion so he should be back for the FA Cup tie [at home to Cambridge United on December 3].”

There was, however, more positive news on David Pipe, who also came off on Tuesday through injury.

“He had a lump on his cheek, which affected his vision,” Flynn added.

“The last two games, I’ve had to make five enforced substitutions. Whether people think that’s right or not, I’ve had to do it – it’s part and parcel of the game.

“I’m hoping Pipey will be alright for Saturday, but he couldn’t see properly out of his one eye.”

Captain Joss Labadie made a welcome return after five weeks out with a hamstring injury as a substitute against Barnet.

The skipper is set for his first start since October 17 and defender Mark O’Brien should also be fit to play but his foot problem remains a concern.

“We’ve got to keep monitoring Mark,” said Flynn.

“But it’s great to have Joss back. That was the only positive on Tuesday and I think you saw when he was on the pitch that we did look a different team.”
