MICHAEL Flynn has revealed that he did consider a move for Newport-raised defender Rollin Menayese during the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old joined League Two rivals Swindon Town on loan from Bristol Rovers on deadline day.
But Newport County AFC manager Flynn was interested in the former Cardiff City youngster last month.
“I spoke to Rollin’s agent and if Ben White had have gone back I probably would have taken him, or tried to take him,” said Flynn.
“He was on my radar but as soon as I knew Ben was staying I didn’t need another right-sided defender.”
Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Menayese came to Wales as a refugee with his brother Elvis.
He grew up in Duffryn and was a pupil at St Joseph’s High School when he captained his adopted country in the Victory Shield.
Menayese (pictured above with Ian Rush in 2013) won five caps for Wales under-17s but was released by Cardiff in 2016.
He signed for Weston-super-Mare before being snapped up by Rovers last summer.
The commanding centre-back will now have the chance to further his development in League Two with the Robins.
Menayese could make his Swindon debut this weekend as they take on Lincoln City.
Rovers boss Darrell Clarke said: "I’m sure that the exposure to regular first team football will help Rollin’s development.
“David Flitcroft is a manager who I know well and playing games can only aid Rollin’s progression and understanding of what is required at this level.”

Speaking to Swindon’s official website after his arrival was confirmed, Menayese said: “I’m excited and as soon as I was told I was coming here, I couldn’t wait to get here and just get started.
“Swindon are a big club in this league and in the Football League as well and they are doing really well at the top of the table. It was a no-brainer.
“I want to come here and just play games, grow as a player, improve and do my best to help the team get as many clean sheets and three points as possible.”
