NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn insists the pressure is all on Luton Town tomorrow as his side look to take advantage of the Hatters’ “wobble” at Rodney Parade.

Long-term leaders Luton have gone four games without a win and they were knocked off the top of the League Two table by Accrington Stanley last weekend.

The visitors are still seven points clear of fourth-placed Wycombe Wanderers but Flynn is determined to keep opposite number Nathan Jones looking over his shoulder and boost the Exiles’ play-off hopes with a win tomorrow.

“It is a big chance for us,” said Flynn. “They’ve been top of the table all season but have had a little bit of a wobble.

“Everybody has a wobble. They haven’t won in four and it’s a crisis here when that happens so imagine how they are feeling with the size of their budget.

“The pressure is on them I think. There’s no pressure on us, we’ve already got more points than we did last season.

“I want my players to go out there and enjoy the occasion and hopefully enjoy beating one of the top teams in the league.”

Flynn praised the work that fellow Welshman Jones has done at Kenilworth Road this season.

“He’s done a good job,” he stated. “Everybody always goes on about the size of the budget that they have but you have got to use it correctly.

“It’s easy to say that they have this, and they have that, which they have. I’m not going to hide it, but you have got to spend that wisely.

“If you don’t, then you end up with a lot of average players who are on good money and they don’t take you anywhere.

“I think what Nathan has put together has been a very, very good squad.

“There is a lot of pressure on them. It comes with the territory.

“And, like I said, Nathan has done well in that respect. He’s had a lot of pressure to deal with because of the expectation levels at the club.

“But hopefully their wobble continues because they won’t fancy coming here on Saturday.”

South Wales Argus:

Luton took 2,000 fans to Coventry City on Tuesday night and they will bring a big following to Newport tomorrow, something that Flynn relishes.

“There’ll be a bigger crowd and a better atmosphere and maybe that will raise our players,” he said.

“Let’s hope it does because the last time we had a big crowd it was a great occasion against Spurs.

“I think the players have shown that they can handle pressure as well,” he added. “They showed it last season and have done it at certain times of this season as well – in the FA Cup run and in the League Cup run.

“We wanted to start the season well, they handled that pressure well, so they can do it.

“The only pressure we have now is what we put on ourselves, which is bigger than any pressure other people could put on us anyway.”
