NEWPORT County AFC boss Michael Flynn doesn’t see why clubs lower down the Football League couldn’t be among those to benefit from the proposed sale of Wembley.

Fulham and Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan’s offer of £800m for the national stadium is currently being considered by the FA.

It has been reported that around £500m would be ploughed back into the game at a grassroots level to improve facilities.

Newport are currently exploring the possibility of moving away from Spytty Park to a new up-to-date training base.

Speaking yesterday, Flynn said: “I think that they’ve got to use the money wisely.

“It has got to go down to grassroots, even the lower leagues.

“I’m not saying to give clubs handouts but do things like provide them with a training ground.

“There are teams like Accrington, they haven’t got one, Morecambe haven’t got one, and we need a training ground.

“Those things can help produce better players because there are better facilities, so I hope the money is used wisely.

“It’s all good putting £800m-£1bn in the coffers but if it’s not spent wisely they might as well keep hold of it.”

When asked if he thought teams like County could benefit from the Wembley deal, he added: “It must be possible, I don’t see why not.

“I’m not asking them to give clubs money so they can just go and waste it on more players and increase their budget.

“I’m on about improving facilities, even their rehab centres so they can get people back.

“There’s so much of a gulf from the Premier League down to League Two, it’s unreal.

“The way the Championship is going there’s going to be a Premier League A and B.

“Don’t get me wrong, when you’re playing there you deserve to play there, I just struggle to find how it is that much of a difference.

“I love watching the Premier League and you see why it’s getting so much sponsorship and interest, it’s arguably the best league in the world.

“I get all that, but as a nation we need to improve grassroots even more and lower league football clubs.”

And giving his take on Spytty Park, Flynn, whose men face Cambridge United at Rodney Parade today (kick-off 3pm) in their last home fixture of the season, said: “We need to sort this.

“It’s not for a lack of trying but it needs to be sorted because I don’t want to be coming back for pre-season doing what we’re doing now.

“I don’t like the two separate changing rooms, I don’t like the hallway upstairs or the press room, it’s freezing.

“But we make use of what we’ve got, take it on the chin and keep going. In an ideal world I hope a lot of things are sorted.”
