NEWPORT County striker Craig McAllister has revealed that he has not spoken to manager Justin Edinburgh since January.

The Glasgow-born front man, who turns 32 next month, has been on loan at Blue Square Bet Premier rivals Luton Town for the past five months.

That agreement ended when the Hatters lost 2-1 to York City in Sunday’s play-off final at Wembley with McAllister leaving the field with a nasty gash to the head.

Having signed a two-year deal with then Exiles boss Anthony Hudson last summer, McAllister is still under contract at Spytty Park until the end of the 2012/13 season.

But, after being shipped out on loan having scored just three goals in 30 appearances following his move from Crawley Town, he is uncertain if he has a future at County under Edinburgh.

“My future is up in the air,” said McAllister.

“I haven’t had any contact with anyone at Newport since I left in January so I don’t know what is happening.

“Obviously I’ve got another year and I’m just waiting to hear from the manager to see where my future lies.”

The switch to Luton was originally intended to be with a view to a permanent move this summer but Gary Brabin, the man who took McAllister to Kenilworth Road, was sacked in April.

And after scoring just once for Luton he is not sure if new manager Paul Buckle wants to sign him permanently.

“I spoke to the (Luton) manager briefly after Wembley but he is on holiday so I will wait and see if anything develops there when he gets back,” he said.

“I had eight stitches in my head after Sunday and I can only just open my eye now – it kind of summed up the way the season went for me.

“I think I just want to draw a line under it and try to start again next season.

“I didn’t expect to be in this situation when I joined Newport,” he added.

“I came to win promotion and I didn’t want to be going out on loan. It’s been disappointing.”

McAllister relocated to Bristol with his young family last summer and wants to stay in the area but he admits he doesn’t hold out much hope of a fresh start at County.

“It’s not looking great is it?” he said.

“I’m expecting a phone call in the next few days to let me know one way or the other.”
