NEWPORT County have this moring released the following statement on their website.
We are sad to confirm that Chris Blight has resigned from his role as Chairman.
Chris has made an extraordinary contribution to the development and success of Newport County AFC over the past 10 years. Under his leadership, the club has progressed to the Blue Square Premier League and reached Wembley for the first time in its history.
Whilst we accept the decision that Chris has made, the criticism and personal abuse which led to his resignation cannot be condoned.
Everyone at Newport County AFC would like to thank Chris and his family and wish them the very best for the future.
We will now begin a search for his successor. In the meantime, David Hando; Club President has kindly agreed to become interim Chairman.
