O'Connor: Front trio will frighten defences

AARON O’Connor believes familiarity will breed contempt for rival Blue Square Bet Conference defences.

The former Luton and Mansfield man has already banged in three goals in two games for the Exiles and has looked a menace in tandem with Jefferson Louis and Danny Crow.

And O’Connor insists their understanding is bad news for County’s opponents.

“I know the boys, I played with Crowy at Luton last year and with Jeff under the manager at Rushden,” he said.

“We all know each other really well and work hard for each other. We are good at different things and it’s enjoyable. We feel confident we’ll get plenty of goals.”

O’Connor is acutely aware of the fact the Exiles must not get complacent after their fine start.

“We knew what we were capable of, we judged ourselves favourably on how we did against the League clubs in pre-season but we aren’t getting carried away,” he said. “The gaffer will tell us to take it one game at a time, he’ll still be saying that on the last game of the season but inside he must be buzzing as much as we are.

“But if we don’t go on and win the next game the last victory will mean nothing.”

O’Connor is delighted by the large crowd of 2,646 who turned out to support the Exiles on their Rodney Parade bow.

“I was told when I signed they didn’t get more than 2,000 all last season so to get that for the first home game was great,” he said.

“The better the team do the more people want to come and hopefully word will get around about how well we are doing .

“We love playing in front of big crowds and hopefully we can put on another good performance for them against Lincoln .”

O’Connor believes the key to the Exiles success is boss Justin Edinburgh.

“The manager has his own players, he’s kept the ones he wants and he’s signed every player he wanted to,” he said. “This is his squad now, it represents him and players he rates and trusts and you can see everyone is working for him.”
