Newport County officially start the countdown to their first ever appearance at Wembley today as chairman Chris Blight heads to the stadium for a planning meeting with Football Association chiefs.
Excitement is building in the city already ahead of the FA Trophy final against York City on Saturday, May 12, and details of the club’s ticket allocation are expected to be released within the next few days.
Blight will meet with the FA organising committee at Wembley today and he is aware of the clamour for information about the club’s big day.
“We are already being bombarded at the club office by enquiries for tickets, merchandise and travel,” said the chairman.
“A dedicated team is in the process of being put together, in an attempt to deal solely with the Wembley visit, and more details will be released in the next few days.”
Blight revealed that he and Newport County AFC Supporters Trust representatives Tony Pring and Dave Roberts have already spoken to Steve Clark of the FA Trophy Committee about plans for the final and has promised to let fans know more as soon as the information is available today.
“A detailed account of processes and arrangements will be made available to the 5/6 representatives, invited from each club,” explained Blight. “These details will immediately be made public.
“Both clubs will be given an allocation of tickets – we do not yet know how many.
“All tickets will be sold through the two clubs. We get the impression that tickets are likely to go on sale from Monday and are likely to be set at sale prices of £30, with Concessions at £15.
“Hospitality and corporate packages will also be offered but those details are yet to be confirmed.
“Entrance to the stadium will probably be set from 1pm.”
Blight added: “In addition, the team are now involved in discussions with various coach companies in an endeavour to assist with deals to get as many fans to Wembley, in the most economical manner. Those will be advertised as they happen.
“It will obviously be everyone’s greatest wish to see as many Newport supporters attend this final (as possible).
“I know that this football club has come a long way since its reformation. So many people have been praying for this day to happen, and so much hard work and effort has gone into achieving this.
“It’s fairy tale stuff ! All I hope is that the people of Newport embrace the opportunity to celebrate, by attending in such numbers and getting behind our team, with the loudest support we can muster. Let’s make it a day to remember.”
