Newport County & Blue Square Premier Table & Results

County 2 Lincoln 1

NEWPORT County AFC made it three wins out of three with a nervy 2-1 victory over Lincoln City at Rodney Parade.

A crowd of 3,022 saw the Exiles race into a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to two goals from top scorer Aaron O'Connor.

The first was set up by Jefferson Louis with a long through ball that O’Connor raced on to and poked goalwards.

Lincoln ‘keeper Paul Farman got a hand to it but couldn’t prevent the ball hitting the corner of his net.

The second was the result of a neat one-two between Danny Crow and Jake Thomson.

Trinidad & Tobago international Thomson found O’Connor in the box and the striker took the time to control, swivel 180 degrees and fire in off the post.

That makes it five goals in three games for the former Luton man.

But Jamie Taylor pulled one back for the visitors with a powerful header from Dan Gray’s cross just after the break.

And that changed the whole atmosphere at Rodney Parade as the tension levels rose for the Exiles fans and manager Justin Edinburgh.

The Imps went close on a number of occasions to earning a point but County held on for three more points and now sit proudly on top of the Blue Square Bet Premier with nine points.

sorry emlynkyde. could'nt get newport city radio this week again so I missed Tim Thraves. just got the music. had to go eventually to south wales radio which took me about 15 mins so I missed the 1st goal. I don't know what it wrong with newport city radio.. Its very frustrating. But good to see County held on for a win. we won't win all our games of course but we are still in the mix, so well done County.

i managed to get over today, 100% better than last season, i think there are plenty of goals up front this season and the backs looke quite solid at the moment, like i said 100% better

I know it is only 3 games played , and is premature, but one or two people should be marking their diaries as a reminder that we have a few players ( who may be a target for other clubs) on a one year contract . When it gets to next year they will/may never sign an extension but may in next few weeks/months.Rember Warren etc ---if they move on lets at least get some GBP's in the bank.

Three games and three wins and the doom merchants are out again with talk of players going elsewhere because they are only on one year contracts. What is it about people who live in Newport, they always look on the dark side of everything the doom merchants go on about the Dragons, the County, the town and whatever they should be supporting. How about singing the praises about Newport its not the best place in the world but it isn't the worse either.

spot on mr shillabeer,a lot of these players have been realeased by so called better teams and have been brought together by justin, many whom have played for him before, and if we keep on winning and getting better crowds then its us who can attract the better players and not worry about other teams stealing ours, so lets all enjoy it while it lasts because it certainly feels a lot better than last years efforts

Thanks SWRXP09 I found it too and have clicked onto the away sides radio comments who I must say nuneaton guys thought county were brilliant. It's such a pity we can't listen to Tim. and nobody seems to know why.
To the guys with negative thoughts about Newport. I would my right arm to be back there. you have a lot more than you think. If you want success take a friend over to the county and double the attendance. I'm saving up so that I can come down about easter time. so with a bit of luck I'll see you all then.

Having listened to the previous match on Coventry& Warwiks Radio, I followed a suggestion by a previous post and googled Newport City Radio and it came straight away.

It was interesting to hear the comments from the Nuneaton commentators one of which was that the atmosphere at The Parade was the best they experienced for a long time.

Great start to the season looking forward to the rest of the campaign now.

A different performance to the Nuneaton match but full credit to the County lads who were up against it second half and they dug in to get a good result.

Lincoln had the early season enthusiasm but they won't be one of the stronger teams in the league so County need to strengthen the bench to cover for injuries and give the starting 11 a rest sometimes.

Well done the County fans again - Support the County !
