SCOTT Bradley was imperious with the putter as he beat last year’s winner Ben Arnold to clinch the West Monmouthshire Golf Club championship for 2016.

A sizeable crowd of club members watched the two men battle it out over 36 holes of matchplay golf, with Bradley defeating the reigning champion 6&5.

Poor weather meant both players struggled during the first half of the encounter, however, Bradley had the edge on the greens to go four up.

Arnold turned his game around at the start of the second 18 but Bradley’s lead was too much for the former to overcome.

The club championship wasn’t the only piece of silverware to be contested on West Monmouthshire’s first finals day.

The W G Rees Bowl for doubles saw Leigh Davies and Stephen Brown face Brett Williams and Jason Powell, this tie over 18 holes of matchplay.

This proved to be a very close final and in the end it was Williams and Powell who secured the trophy on the very last hole after the two pairs had teed off all square.

Terry Meek and Julian Lee contested the Bryn Hammond Singles final, again over 18 holes.

And in a repeat of the doubles, this one went the distance, Lee taking the title on the final green.

West Monmouthshire would like to thank all of the members who came out to support the matches and helped make it a special day for the club’s best golfers.
