PETER Hanson & Miguel Angel Jimenez stretched Europe's lead to 8-6 with their win over Bubba Watson & Jeff Overton.
Two down overnight, the American duo reduced the gap in spectacular style when Overton holed his second shot to the eighth for an eagle two, prompting an ear-splitting bout of screaming and shouting.
Hanson almost matched that with a brilliant birdie from the edge of the water left of the 15th and the 46-year-old Jimenez birdied the next for good measure as Europe moved 8-6 ahead.
It was soon 8-6 to the home side as Jimenez and Hanson, Europe's last two automatic qualifiers, held on for victory over Watson and Overton in the first match of the session to reach the 18th.
