WILD Thing' John Daly is hoping for a late entry into the Celtic Manor Wales Open as he chases a permanent spot on the European Tour.

Daly, who won the Open Championship in 1995, featured last week at the Italian Open and is now hoping to play in the Principality.

The huge hitter explained: "I would just love to keep on playing in Europe but my charity event next week in my home town means a lot to me.

"My next Tour event is supposed to be the St Jude Championship in Memphis but I could be playing in the Wales Open and am into the BMW in Munich as a former winner.

"I've heard Padraig Harrington is playing in Wales and I've heard Celtic Manor is a nice course that will host the 2010 Ryder Cup.

"I'd still love to play in a Ryder Cup and might get picked for the Europeans as there's no chance of me being picked for the US.

"I wouldn't rule out playing a full season in Europe.

"There are so many courses on our Tour where you can't hit a driver like you can in Europe because they are more traditional courses over here."
