SEVEN girls represented the Newport Gymnastic Academy at the regional novice women’s artistic championships at Cardiff Central Youth Club.

All the girls looked fantastic and gave outstanding performances on the vault, bars, beam and floor.

In the 14 + age group, Emily Davies performed excellent routines and won overall gold.

Emily also collected individual gold on bars with a brilliant routine, silver on the beam, bronze on the vault and 6th place on floor.

Emily will now represent the South East Wales region at the Welsh finals on Sunday 27th October at the Sport Wales National Centre Cardiff.

In the 12/13 age group, Yasmin Ali and Louise Upton performed excellent routines with Yasmin achieving the bronze medal overall position.

Yasmin also collected gold on the vault, silver on beam, 5th on floor and bronze on bars. Yasmin will also represent the South East Wales region in at the finals in Cardiff.

Louise Upton also had a great competition completing all her routines with an amazing performance on the uneven bars to win the gold medal.

In the 10/11 age group Alice Hackwood, Maia Ali and newcomer Kaitlyn Wood performed excellent routines on all apparatus. Alice won the gold medal for an amazing handspring vault and 6th place on the bars with a great routine.

Both Maia Ali and Kaitlyn Wood performed excellent routines on all 4 apparatus but could not secure a top 6 place.

In the 8/9 age group Katie Jackson performed 4 great routines and out of 60 gymnasts won 4th place on the vault at this her first artistic competition.

This was another successful competition for the City of Newport Gymnastic Academy.

The new training centre based at Queensway Meadow Industrial Estate has attracted many gymnasts and now has a membership of 240.
