YOUNG Newport players were among the winners at the South Wales Tennis Championships.

Harri Lloyd-Evans, of the Stow Park club, won the 12U boys title; Molly Walsh, of the Allt-yr-yn club, won the 12U girls title and Odran Hobbs, of the Allt-yr-yn club, won the 14U boys title.

More than 100 players took part in 140 matches over four days at Cardiff Metropolitan University and David Lloyd, Cardiff, Harri taking the 12U title.

“The tournament was played in great spirit,” said Paul Pritchard, of Black Dog Tennis, who organised the competition for Tennis Wales. “It's a good excuse to get out of the house during the holiday period and run off some of that Christmas dinner!”
