A CALDICOT teenager has confirmed her status as one of the most exciting young athletics talents around by racing into 2014 with two gold medals at a major Welsh Athletics meeting.

Christ College Brecon pupil Amelia Reynolds, aged 15, who represented Wales in the Celtic Games in 2013, competed in the 60m and 200m races at the Welsh Athletics Junior Grand Prix at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff.

She was one of 500 young athletes at the event which incorporated the South Wales, East Wales and South West England Indoor Championships.

Reynolds came first in both races with times of 7.95 seconds in the 60m, and a personal best of 25.38 seconds in the 200m – impressive victories given that she has just moved up into the U17 Years category, and this was her first major competition at this new age level.

Head of Christ College Emma Taylor said: "Amelia now has the Welsh Championships on January 25 and January 26 in her sights but, in addition to this, her times mean that she has already achieved the qualifying times in the 60m and 200m for the British Championships in March.

"It is an exciting time for her and for Christ College."

Reynolds joined Christ College Brecon in September 2012 from St. John’s-on-the-Hill Preparatory School in Tutshill, Chepstow, and benefits from a sports scholarship from the prestigious independent school.

On February 7-8 Christ College is holding entrance and scholarship assessments for pupils interested in joining the school in year seven or year nine in September 2014. Visit christcollegebrecon.com for details or call the admissions registrar on 01874 615440.
