Pontypool Schools Under 15s emphatically clinched a spot in the Morgan Griffiths Trophy final with a 38-15 victory over Blaenau Gwent at Croesyceiliog, writes Laura Murton.

Pooler, who qualified top of Pool Three, will now start as favourites for the final when they take on Cynon Valley at Parc y Scarlets next month.

Cynon Valley ended the hopes of an all Gwent final when they edged out Newport 19-10. James McCarthy scored all of Newport's points through a converted try and penalty.

Meanwhile, Ebbw Fawr Under 16s lost out to Whitchurch High School 29-7 in the Welsh Schools National final at the Millennium Stadium. Rhys Bayliss crossed for Ebbw's only try of the match, converted by Ethan Phillips.

The Welsh Under 18s kicked off their FIRA-AER Under 18 Championship assault with a slender 23-21 win over Scotland in Poland. Newport High's wing Barney Nightingale game off the bench to feature while Coleg Gwent's Harrison Keddie also featured in the match day squad.

At the Greenhill Cup Gwent Schools tournament it was Langstone that took home the silverware as they saw off a combined Glasllwch/Clytha side to win the prestigious 10-a-side tournament for the first time. Newport Schools captain Oli Andrew produced a moment of brilliance to claim the only try of the final.

In the Shield competition, honours were shared with Eveswell and Mt Pleasant finishing on equal points on top of the pile after the round robin matches, while St Mary's took home the Bowl edging out St Patrick's by two points.

Elsewhere, Welsh Colleges Women's Sevens side retained their National title with victory at the British Colleges National Championship at Bath last week.
