THIRTY-SEVEN Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing students based at Maindee, Newport’s, Martial Arts and Fitness Centre (MAFC) are celebrating after another successful competition.

The students travelled to Devon to represent Gassor’s Tournament Team at the South West Open Taekwon-Do Championships, and they returned home with an impressive haul of 45 medals. The medal results were 18 Gold, 13 Silver and 14 Bronze.

The club are very pleased and proud of all 37 students and the team’s full medal results were: Gold Medals: Caitlin Nail – Sparring, Chayton Worrell – Sparring, David Perry – Sparring, Emilio Thacker – Sparring, Gareth Ellison – Patterns, Georgia Southway – Sparring, Harmesh Chand – Sparring , Jade Rendle – Special Technique (High Kick), Jake Rendle – Sparring, James Shaw – Sparring, Jamie Yung – Special Technique (High Kick) and Special Technique (Long Kick), Lexie Smith – Sparring, Logan Maskell – Special Technique (Long Kick), Nick Rendle – Sparring, Owen Carter – Sparring, Owen Powell – Sparring and Thomas Lewis – Sparring Silver Medals: Adam Reed – Patterns and Special Technique (High Kick), Alex North – Special Technique (Long Kick), Arron Rose – Sparring, Grace Bassage-Morgan – Special Technique (High Kick), Jamie Yung – Sparring, Kai Stewart – Sparring, Kian Luton – Sparring , Liam Rossiter – Sparring, Rhian Morgan – Sparring, Sam Chand – Sparring and Special Technique (High Kick) and Thomas Lewis – Patterns Bronze Medals: Adam Reed – Sparring, Alex North – Sparring, Courtney Kyte – Sparring, Craig Radford – Patterns, Ethan Kyte – Special Technique (Long Kick), Gareth Ellison – Sparring, Harvey Jones – Sparring, Jade Rendle – Patterns, Lewys Burge – Patterns, Nick Rendle – Patterns, Owain Thompson-Reynolds – Sparring, Robert Howell – Sparring and Tomos Sharwood – Sparring and Special Technique (Long Kick).

The club would also like to say a big ‘well done’ to: George Williams, Harri Radford and Myles Bassage-Morgan who also all tried hard.

The team were accompanied by their their senior coach and senior international I.T.F. instructor Leanne Gassor-Jones 4th Degree Black Belt and team coaches Mark Sharwood and Arron Rose. The coaches were really pleased with the effort given by all students and are now looking forward to preparing the team for the Irish Cup tournament in September.
