TREDEGAR’S Mark Colbourne will be hoping to make it four medals out of four in the men’s road race today which is due to start at 2.30pm.

The cyclist was the first Welsh Paralympic competitor to win a gold medal in the 3km individual pursuit on Friday (August 31), breaking the world record.

The triumph came just 24 hours after winning silver in the C1-2-3 1km time trial in the Velodrome at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

He bagged his second silver medal yesterday in the men’s C1 16km time trial.

The 42-year-old paracyclist who was left with lower leg paralysis after a paragliding accident three years ago, finished 12.94 seconds behind Germany’s Michael Teuber yesterday.

Mark has already painted the town gold with a gold postbox in his honour next to Tredegar Post Office on Commercial Street.

Mark will be hoping to double his gold medal success today, but he’s already looking ahead of this race and towards the Rio Games in 2016.

Mr Colbourne will have one last chance to add to his hat trick of medals but says the nature of the Brands Hatch course will make it difficult.

He said: "It’s very difficult with the hills for someone with my disability.

"The course is in the favour of the C3 cyclists. It’s going to be tough for us C1 guys.

"I’ve got no hamstrings and no glutes working so you put me on an 11 per cent hill and it’s like someone has taken my batteries out."
