FLYWEIGHT Andrew Selby ensured there will be two Welsh boxers in the quarter-finals of London 2012 after a comprehensive dismantling of Khazakstan's Ilyas Suelimenov tonight.

Following welterweight Fred Evans’ lead from earlier in the day, Selby dominated from first to last against a classy fighter who simply could not live with the ferocious tempo set by Selby.

Taking the first round 6-5, Selby’s class shone through in the second and he would eventually triumph 19-15 to book a quarter-final slot on August 7.

In contrast to the ultra conservative nature of the first two rounds of the Evans fight, Selby’s bout exploded into life with both fighters intent on meeting each other in the middle of the ring.

No doubt the tempo was partly set by the deafening roar inside the ExCeL centre with each fighter able to land some neat combinations and neither willing to take a backwards step.

While there was little to separate them at the end of the first by the end of the second Selby was four points clear as he started picking off Suelimenov on the counter.

Trailing by such a margin, Suelimenov had to take risks in the last and appeared to hurt Selby with a two big body shots but even though he drew the round 7-7 it was a case of too little too late.
