NEWPORT motor racing star Rory Collingbourne is gearing up for the biggest race of his career so far at Silverstone this weekend.

The 16-year-old is making move into the senior Jam-Sport Fiesta Championship 2014 having only begun racing on his 15th birthday in September 2012, when he competed in the final two races of the Fiesta Junior Championship.

It was last year that the talented teen really started to shine, completing his first full season and achieving podium positions at the UK’s premier race circuits including Silverstone and Brands Hatch, where he had his first win.

Collingbourne's first season was a huge success, considering he had no previous race experience and the large majority of drivers had moved up from karting or from other junior championships.

He achieved a remarkable third position overall in the Vortex News Ford Fiesta Junior Championship, a great result that will stand him in good stead for moving up into the Senior Championship this season.

Collingbourne will be hoping to continue his success again this year while competing as the youngest in the Jam-Sport Fiesta Championship 2014.

He said: “I am very much looking forward to the challenge that 2014 is going to bring and I cannot wait to be back out in the car this weekend at Silverstone.

"I am now part of the Jam-Sport race team which I am very excited about.

“I would like to thank my family, friends and sponsor UHY Hacker Young Accountants for all their support from the very beginning of my racing career.

"I am fully committed to this season and looking to achieve such positive results again this year."
