NEWPORT’S Elena Allen has added to her medal tally after winning team gold and individual silver at the Shooting World Championships in Spain.

Allen combined with Great Britain teammates Amber Hill and Sarah Gray to claim gold in the team skeet and then impressed in the individual tournament before being edged out by America’s Brandy Drozd by a single score in the gold medal match.

The 42-year-old won bronze in Peru last year so was delighted to go one better in Granada, with her efforts earning another place for Team GB at the2016 Rio Olympics.

"I'm ever so pleased to get the silver - I did not want another bronze medal,” she said. “And getting the quota place for the Olympics is fantastic."

She continued: "It's been tough, during training it gets extremely stressful as the competition nears but I'm so pleased with how I handled the pressure.”

Allen won silver in the skeet at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last month.
