WELSH acrobatic gymnasts Bethan Dix and Chloe Gunter are celebrating after bringing home silver medals from the Geneva FIG Acro World Cup.

Dix, aged 19, and 15-year-old partner Gunter wowed the judged in Switzerland to take silver in the senior women’s pairs, finishing with 26.030 points – just behind China's 26.430 and ahead of Russia in bronze position with 25.860.

The result tops off a great few months for Newport teen Dix and Gunter, who train at King Edmund Gymnastic Club in Yate under head coach Nikki Thorne.

The girls were also called up by the Welsh national squad for the Acrobatic Celtic Cup in Limerick, Ireland, back in March.

Dix and Gunter helped Wales finish second behind Scotland.

And the duo also finished fourth in the world in the women’s pairing category at the annual Acrobatic Gymnastics World Cup in Varma, Bulgaria.

Representing Great Britain’s senior team, the duo, who have only been training together as a pairing for 18 months, managed to secure fourth place behind Belarus, Russia and USA.

With a difficulty scoring of 9.480 and an artistic score of 8.350, a total score of 25.030 secured their position above Germany who placed fifth.

Dix started off her gymnastic career at Cwmcarn Gymnastics Club, before moving to Pen-y-Bont Gymnastics Club and King Edmund Gymnastic Club.

“It was incredible to win a silver medal – a dream come true,” said Dix.

“We trained really hard for it but we didn’t expect to win silver.

“It’s a great achievement and reward for all the hard work we put in.”

Next up for Dix and Gunter are trials at Lilleshall National Sports Centre for the upcoming European championships in Germany where they will aim to go one better than silver.

Thorne, the girls’ coach in Yate, said: “It’s the first time Chloe and Beth have been selected for GB, and their inclusion is all the more remarkable given they have only been together as a pairing with us for a year and a half.

She added: “The Celtic Cup was the first time we’d ever had representation for Wales and by all accounts Beth and Chloe performed very well.”
