EMMA Wookey of Lliswerry Runners has completed her own half marathon hat-trick after adding the Swansea crown to her victories in Cardiff and Newport.

Wookey won the women's race in the Swansea Half Marathon on Sunday in a time of 1hr 17m 51.6s.

That saw her finish in 14th place overall and she was the first female to cross the line – just as she was in her home race in Newport in March this year and in the Capital last year.

Commonwealth Games runner Dewi Griffiths stormed to overall victory in Swansea, setting a new course record with 66 minutes and 48 seconds. Despite head winds, he managed to shave off eight minutes from last year’s best time.

The Swansea Harrier and British international runner, who suffered disappointment at Glasgow 2014 due to injury, spoke of his delight at winning.

“I’m really happy with that time,” he said “There was a bit of headwind halfway through the course but I’m still happy with that.”
