WELSH rising star Seren Bundy-Davies is heading to the European Under-23 Athletics Championships in Estonia with double gold on her mind in the 400m and 4x400m relay.

But the Manchester-based athlete is also hoping she can be included in the British relay team for the World Championships in Beijing after she finishes up in Tallinn in July.

Bundy-Davies is ranked third in the UK this year and was this week confirmed as one of four Welsh athletes in the 35-strong British team.

The World Junior bronze medallist David Omoregie will chase another medal in the 110m hurdles and Rhianwedd Price and Melissa Courtney will provide a double Welsh attack in the women’s 1500m.

“The plan for this year was always to go to the Under 23 championships and nothing has changed in that respect,” said Bundy-Davies.

“But now I’ve got the World Championship qualifier as well I’d love to be considered for Beijing as well.

“I know the selectors have said they won’t consider athletes for both events in individual categories, but I just hope I can get a place in the relay quartet.

“It would be fantastic experience for me ahead of next year.

“Rio is on everyone’s horizons and I’d love to qualify for the Olympics.”

Meanwhile, double Welsh senior sprint champion Hannah Brier and Welsh Junior long jump record holder Emily Wright have been picked in a 27-strong Great Britain and Northern Ireland team to head to the IAAF World Youth Championships (under-18) in Cali, Colombia later this month.

“I will have to ask for some time off school before I go, but I’m sure that will be OK,” said 17-year-old Brier, who competed at Glashow 2014 aged just 16.

“We’ve finished our exams, but we’re getting stuck into the Welsh Baccalaureate until the end of the summer term.

“The Commonwealth Games certainly inspired me to take athletics far more seriously,” she added. “I’m enjoying every minute of it and I’m even starting to believe I could be quite good at it.

“It's a bit bizarre that I went to the Commonwealth Games before the World Youth Games. I skipped a few age groups, but it has prepared me for these junior championships.

“I’m used to running with all the big guys now. I’m very happy with where I’m ranked in the world and I’d love to make the final.

“That’s my ultimate goal and, once you are in there, anything can happen.”
