NEWPORT sprinter Mica Moore goes head to head with Welsh champion Hannah Brier as part of a star-studded day of athletics in Cardiff on Sunday.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games relay teammates will be up against each other in the 60m as part of the Welsh Indoor Championships at the National Indoor Athletics Centre.

Also in action in Cardiff will be Paralympic and World Championship finalists and several Welsh record holders.

The men’s 60m features Team GB stars James Dasaolu and Adam Gemili, who will be taking part in his first competitive 60m race since 2012.

Cameron Greenslade (Cwmbran Harriers) and Tyler Williams (Newport Harriers) will also be in 60m action.

And Paralympic champion Jonny Peacock will be looking to get his year off to a fast start along with Cardiff AAC’s Kristian Jones who was recently crowned junior champion.

Moore (Birchfield Harriers) and Brier (Swansea Harriers) will be up against Asha Philip, British under-20 silver medallist Shannon Malone and Newport Harriers sprinter Katie-Jane Priest.

In the 800m talented youngster Alex Coomber will be chasing his first sub-1min 50sec time against Owen Locke (Newport Harriers).

Going the 1500m distance are Welsh record holder James Thie and London 2012 Paralympic finalist Stephen Morris.

Jade Williams will be going up against GB Cross Country International Charlotte Arter in the 1500m, looking to challenge them here will also be Melissa Courtney, Julia Cooke, Rachel McClay and Cwmbran Harriers’ Isobel Parry-Jones.

Competing in the shot put will be Commonwealth Games team member Gareth Winter, Paralympic gold medallist Aled Davies and discus thrower Brett Morse.

European under-23 110m hurdles champion David Omoregie opens his indoor season, as does close domestic rival David King and Kyle Arnold (Newport Harriers).

Also opening her 2016 season in the pole vault is Sally Peake, Wales’ silver medallist from Glasgow 2014.

The women’s 200m will see Cwmbran Harriers rising stars Eve Williams and Gabrielle Fakande compete, with Williams also going in the 400m.

Macey Jones (Cwmbran Harriers) is also in action in the women’s long jump and triple jump.

Tom Jenkins (Newport Harriers) will compete over 3000m and Kellen Jones (Newport Harriers) goes in the long jump.

Gwent athletes will also be competing at under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-20 levels.
