ABERTILLERY’S Chris Hill and Abergavenny’s Carys Howard-Rees were among the winners when Rhiwbina Tennis Club in Cardiff hosted the Yonex YCsports Welsh Seniors Open.

The ITF world seniors tour event featured more than 60 players from Wales, England, Scotland, Hong Kong and New Zealand across four age groups.

Singles, doubles and mixed titles were up for grabs in 35-and-over, 45-and-over, 55-and-over, and 65-and-over categories.

While Hill triumphed in the men’s 55-and-over singles, Howard-Rees teamed up with Ellen Jones (Cardiff Met) to clinch the ladies’ 35-and-over women’s doubles crown.

Howard-Rees’ playing partner also won the singles after a three-set epic against Ellie Lewis.

“The ITF seniors tour provides a high level of competition which enables players to enjoy tennis for life,” said Peter Drew, chief executive of Tennis Wales, which supported the event.

“Rhiwbina Tennis Club did an excellent job in hosting the tournament and we were pleased to give our support. It’s great news that it will be back next year.
