FORMER Newport Gwent Dragons favourite Aled Brew is set to earn a new deal with Bath until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old left Rodney Parade in early September after an arrangement was made to cut short his three-year contract.

Brew initially joined Aviva Premiership side Bath on trial until the end of the year, but some impressive performances mean his stay at the Rec could well be extended.

He showed his renowned power and pace to good effect during the European Challenge Cup defeat of Bristol last Thursday, as Bath won 22-6.

The nine-cap Wales international has been a useful addition to director of rugby Todd Blackadder’s squad, with minutes on the wing and at outside centre since his arrival.

Speaking after the Bristol victory, Blackadder said he hoped to keep Brew until the end of the current campaign.

“I’ve only known Aled since he’s come into our squad and I’ve been nothing but impressed,” Blackadder told the Bath Chronicle. “He’s been brilliant.

“His versatility – the fact he can play in the midfield and on the wing – is great.

“He’s tough as well. He carries solid, he’s been great for us. I think he’s a quality player.

“Hopefully he gets to stay on until the end of the season. We’d love to have him.”

Brew is the leading try scorer in Dragons history with most of his 43 scores coming during his devastating second spell in Newport.

That earned him selection for the 2011 World Cup and he won the last of his nine caps against the Barbarians in 2012 before a big-money move to Biarritz.
