CWMBRAN’S Danielle Jordan marked her 50th international appearance by helping Wales Women seal another convincing win in Kuala Lumpur on the way to the World League Round 2 quarter-finals.

Jordan, captain Abi Welsford, from Usk, and Abergavenny goalkeeper Rose Thomas all played their part as Wales beat Thailand with goals by Natalie Blyth, Beth Bingham and Eloise Laity.

Wales, who beat Singapore 7-0 on Sunday, finished second in their pool with two wins from three matches.

They will now face Kazakhstan in the last eight of the competition tomorrow.

A win against Kazakhstan would see Wales through to the semi-finals on Saturday, where they would then play for a place in July’s World League Semi-Finals, the qualification event for the World Cup.

“This is unchartered territory for us and therefore we will keep our preparation the same,” said head coach Kevin Johnson.

“We know that to continue our improvement we must keep working hard on our processes and understand by doing this well we will have every chance of progressing to the next round.

“Kazakhstan are a little unknown to us and so we will prepare diligently and take the game as a positive challenge.”

Blyth opened scoring against Thailand after 28 minutes by converting a penalty corner.

Bingham then celebrated her first senior international goal for Wales, also from a penalty corner, to make the score 2-0 shortly after half-time.

Victory was sealed when Laity followed up with a strike from open play to put the match to bed.

Jordan’s 50th senior international cap was marked with a presentation by Johnson ahead of the match.

She added: “I feel honoured to receive my 50th cap just a few days after my 21st birthday.

“I’m really lucky to share it with my teammates in what was an important match for us.”
