NEWPORT Harriers athletes claimed eight medals at the Welsh Indoor Senior Championships, as well as a Welsh record, club records and plenty of personal bests.

Not to be outdone, middle distance runner Isobel Parry-Jones also picked up some silverware for Cwmbran Harriers.

The meeting in Cardiff featured under-15 and under-17 events on top of those for the seniors, and it was three of Newport’s younger competitors who starred by winning golds.

After clocking a new lifetime best of 42.32 seconds to win her heat in the under-15 300m, Macey Morris then smashed that mark in the final to claim gold.

She set a Welsh and championship record with a time of 41.51secs, well clear of Colwyn Bay’s Sacha Didcote in second place.

Meanwhile, Isabel Davies triumphed in the under-17 300m, crossing the finish line in 42.19secs, while clubmate Caitlin Arnold had a day to remember too.

Competing in the under-17 shot put, Arnold threw a personal best of 12.06 metres, more than 50 centimetres clear of the athlete in second.

Fellow Newport Harriers member Gwennan Lewis just missed out on the medals in fourth, but she also recorded a lifetime best of 10.00m, as did Dylan Bevan (10.95m), who was fourth in the under-17 men’s shot.

In the seniors, Cardiff AAC’s Simeon Clarence won the men’s long jump with his last jump, with Newport’s Kellen Jones’ 6.79m personal best giving him silver.

There was also a silver for Jones’ clubmate Daniel Cork in the shot put – Cork’s 14.43m was also a lifetime best. Paralympic gold medallist Aled Sion Davies took the Welsh title with 14.95m.

Kyle Arnold was eighth overall in the 60m hurdles but picked up a bronze medal after finishing as the third best Welsh athlete.

Owen Lock, Gareth Knight and Tom Jenkins all ran faster than they had before in the 800m heats, although the three Newport Harriers failed to qualify for the final.

Zoe Nash (Newport Harriers), Parry-Jones (Cwmbran Harriers) and Hannah O’Connor (Newport Harriers) all secured medals in the women’s events.

Nash was sixth overall but third best Welsh athlete in the 60m, clocking a time of six seconds flat, while O’Connor was also third in the shot thanks to a personal best of 6.79m.

Finally, a personal best of four minutes 33.08 seconds gave Parry-Jones, who was third overall, silver in the 1500m.
