A WALES team featuring the likes of Caitlyn Mapps and Macey Morris will go for glory on the outskirts of Dublin today at the Schools International Athletic Board’s Track & Field International.

Morton Stadium in Santry hosts an event which brings together the best athletes from Welsh, English, Scottish and Irish schools.

The majority of the Welsh team are from the under-17 age group, although outstanding under-15s such as Mapps and Morris have also been selected to gain experience at a higher level.

Mapps goes in the long jump after beating the championship record to win gold at the Welsh Schools Championships in Cardiff with a leap of 5.49m.

She also runs in the relay in Ireland today, as does Morris, whose focus individually is on the 200m.

Newport Harriers sprinter Morris recently went second on the Welsh all-time list for the girls’ under-15 300m.

Other girls selected from Gwent schools to compete for Wales today include Armani Williams, Gabrielle Fakande, Abigail Fisher, Emilie Davies, Isabel Breedon, Gwen Lewis, Caitlin Arnold, Carys Morgan and Phoebe Brown.

In the boys’ events, Finley Richards, Remi Adebiyi, Jackson Mountford, Harvey Reynolds and Henry Gauntlett represent their Gwent schools in Wales colours.

Wales will be looking to improve on the 14 medals they achieved at last year’s event in Kent.
