GWENT ex-World Snooker champion Mark Williams has been fined £4,000 for saying he 'hated' snooker venue the Crucible Theatre in sheffield.
Williams, world champion in 2000 and 2003, condemned the Sheffield theatre as a "sxxx hole" in a Twitter tirade on the eve of the World Championship in April.
The WPBSA ordered the Cwm player to pay a £3,000 fine and £1,000 costs after his outburst on the social network.
In a statement, the sport's governing body said: "Mark's Twitter remarks were unacceptable and potentially highly damaging to snooker's long relationship with Sheffield and the Crucible Theatre," and that he did not "behave in a proper and correct manner consistent with his status as professional sportsmen."
