Dragons miss out on target Andy Goode

TARGET: Former England star Andy Goode TARGET: Former England star Andy Goode

NEWPORT Gwent Dragons target Andy Goode has chosen to join Aviva Premiership side Wasps next season over a move to Rodney Parade.

The 32-year-old ex-England fly-half is expected to officially announce his departure for Dai Young’s side from Worcester Warriors on Tuesday.

A hugely experienced player, who had also played for Leicester and Brive, he was not offered a new contract by the Warriors after spending the last three seasons at Sixways.

Goode had won 17 caps for his country and was being sought by the Dragons to fill a problem position for the region since Jason Tovey left to join Cardiff Blues last year.

No 10 Steffan Jones has demonstrated glimpses of his potential in recent weeks but Lewis Robling struggled to make the position his own this season as did Dan Evans after he switched from full back.

'Goode', I'm glad he won't be joining us. Backwards step if they had signed him. Steffan Jones is a class player, but needs a bit of experience at his side, that's all. Recruitment at the Dragons has been woeful since Ruddock moved on. Goode comes with an awful lot of baggage, I'm led to believe.

Go and get Tovey back. He can't be enjoying being third choice 10 and 15.

Beale and Edwards got to go, signings all wrong and poor, let players go who have done well and signed some rubbish no belief in what they consider a good player will not mention players names as not their fault but plenty , understand Beale deals with contracts so needs to go.

Wasn't keen on this signing, there has been far too much money wasted on bad signings.

I keep hearing these promises of significant signings but we have nothing to attract any decent player. At least, if we had a decent coaching set up we would have a chance.

I suspect the negotiations went something like this:

BONKERS - 'We'll Andy, sorry you had to see us lose at home by 60 points to Glasgow. We don't normally lose by that much.'
AG - 'What's on offer?'
BONKERS - £100k, a Subaru, and a penthouse flat in Pill overlooking the Usk.'
AG - 'Wasps have offered me £250k, a Merc and a place overlooking the Thames.'
BONKERS - 'Yeh, but you'll get a chance to be coached by Darren Edwards.'
AG - 'Darren Edwards (Accrington Stanley), who the hell is he?'

PRESS CONFERENCE - THE DRAGONS WILL NOT NOW BE SIGNING ANDY GOODE.

Argus why do people reading the sports articles have to put up with the noisy adverts? Infuriating.

Because that's what pays for the article which you are reading for free.
If you don't like them, press the pause/ stop button on the advert or turn the sound down on your computer.

No good having Tovey back he never seemed all that interested in doing much to me when he was here.If they they want to throw away any more money my missus can kick at least as well as half the goal kickers I've seen over there this season and better than any of the third-rate NRFC. if they're interested either.
